Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:10

Praying for God’s will to be done is among the more difficult things for a person to honestly and thoughtfully pray. Because our will, ingrained in our soul by God, is one of the most powerful forces in the human persona. And, generally, our will is what we really want done.

We equate will with determination, drive, purpose, or the power to choose ones actions. We view the human will as a good thing, and it is, it is God-given.

But the most powerful attribute of the human will is the ability to surrender to God’s will.

When you are a follower of Christ you become convinced of the truth that God knows best, that He is wiser than you will ever be, and His desire and will is perfect, both for the individual and for the community. We know these things intellectually, but to actually surrender our will to this reality is hard – it is a daily, even moment by moment submission, “Your will be done, Father, in the world, in my life, and in this moment.”

Surrender to God’s will in every situation brings fearless assurance and peaceful freedom to live without anxiety, for my selfish, stubborn will is submitted to the loving, sovereign will of my heavenly Father.

Your will be done, Father.

Sincerely,
Ed
